Not too long ago I wrote a piece on things you should know before buying a used car. As a follow up to that, I’m bringing you an article on things you should do before you sell your car. Take a look:
Check Car Performance
If your car is no longer performing to a high standard, it will affect how much you sell it for. You can’t sell a car with faulty brakes and expect to get a decent price for it. Take it to your local garage and let the mechanics have a look at it. They’ll check everything that needs to be checked. If they identify any issues, it’s up to you to make a decision. You can either pay to have them fixed, or sell your car as it is. Cars with faults are still going to sell. Even ones that can’t move will sell eventually. There’s always someone looking to buy a broken car and try to fix it themselves. But, you won’t get lots of money for it. Figure out how much it costs to fix any car faults. Then, weigh up the costs and see if it’s worth paying to fix things. Sometimes, you can get things fixed and sell your car for a lot more money. It all depends on how costly your problems are. Of course, if your car is perfectly fine then you have nothing to worry about! Just list it on various car selling websites and you’re good to go.
Check Your Tyres
Tyres are a big thing when it comes to cars. Everyone should already know the importance of making sure your car has the correct tyres fitted. Obviously, you need to do this so you can drive safely on the roads. But, a lot of people forget about their tyres when selling their car. You’re not going to drive it anymore, so you don’t care so much about them. However, tyres are a huge issue for any prospective car buyer. If you’re looking to buy a car, you usually check the tyres. If they’re run down and not properly inflated, you’re put off the car. This is going to happen if you don’t check the tyres on the car that you’re selling. Ensure that they’re in good working order and will satisfy a buyer’s needs. Sometimes, you may find that one or two need replacing because they’re too worn down. So, it’s time to get some new ones bought and fitted to your car. As you can see on the AA Tyres website, it’s possible to search for tyres by your vehicle registration. This will mean you find the perfect size and type for your car. Check your tyres, get them sorted out, and you’ll be one step closer to selling your car.
Look For Dents/Cracks In Your Car
Dents in the car body and cracks in the windscreen can devalue a vehicle. So, you have to check your car for any of these structural issues. Inspect your car closely and look out for any dents in the body. You may have hit something once and forgot to get the dent fixed. Or, something may have it your car and you didn’t realise it. Whatever the reason, if you have any dents, get them fixed. The same goes for cracks on the windscreen. If any are around, you need someone to get rid of them before you sell.
Make Your Car Look Nice
Finally, it’s important to think about the aesthetics of your car. No one wants to buy a car that looks horrible and dirty. When have you ever seen a filthy car advertised and had the impulse to buy it? Never, because no one wants to buy a car that doesn’t look very pretty. So, it’s up to you to make your car look nice. To do this, you have to give it a right old clean. I’m talking inside and out here; you can’t cut any corners. Get the vacuum cleaner out and get the interior looking nice and cleansed. A great tip here is to get some fabric spray and use it on your car seats so they smell fresh. And, get a nice new air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror too. Then, step outside the car and get more work done. It’s time to get the soap and water and scrub your car clean. Get rid of any dirt and dust and leave your car gleaming. Once you’ve cleaned it, think about using some car wax to make it shine even more. The final step is taking some attractive pictures, which you can use to advertise your car. Take them at the best angles and in the best lighting possible.
