As car enthusiasts, we are always looking for that something extra that could make our car just a little better than before. Only a true car guy knows how those small things that most people ignore make a world of difference.
Our current project car the MK6 Golf GTI has Xenon lights installed, but the bulbs are old and somewhere along the lines the left and right bulbs are slightly different colours. We decided to upgrade the bulbs to the Ring High-performance Xenon HID D1S OEM bulbs model RU85402100 and here are our thoughts about them.
What are Xenon (HID) Lights?
Xenon headlights have been adopted by the most popular and high-end cars of the last decade. The shift is mainly because these lights have a premium and a stylish look to them, now the industry is moving over to LED headlights, find what the best LED headlights here, but Xenons are still very effective. HID or High-Intensity Discharge lamps deliver an energy-efficient ray of white, which is 2 to 3 times brighter than halogen and a standard Xenon HID bulb can last for over 2,500 hours.
Ring High-performance Xenon HID D1S Bulbs – RU85402100
The Ring high-performance Xenon HID bulbs follows the same ideology of Xenon bulbs, but they have tweaked the bulbs to deliver better results than the standard HID bulb. Following are some of the important characteristics that make the Ring D1S Xenon HID bulb the best option available on the market.
Greater Visibility
The Xenon HID D1S bulb from Ring puts up to 100% more light on the road compared to a standard Xenon HID Bulb. It provides better conditions when driving and provides that extra reach of light, which intern can lead to quicker response times from the driver at night.
Colour Temperature
These headlights deliver a colour temperature of 4,100K which adds in the warm white mixture of light. It improves the reach, visibility, and doesn’t put a strain on other drivers. Standard Xenon lights are not as effective in fog; however, the Ring Xenon D1S delivers better visibility in any conditions.
Lifespan
Standard Xenon lights last a lot longer than the halogen ones, the Halogen headlights can last around 400 to 1,000 hours. The standard xenon bulbs last 2,000 to 2,500 hours, whereas, the Ring HIDs lasts 3,000 hours and comes with a 3-year warranty.
Testing & Conclusion
The Ring High-Performance Xenon HID D1S OEM bulbs are better than the standard Xenon lights in the Golf. Surprisingly, although these bulbs are sold as 4,100k, the colour seems a lot whiter than the standard bulb. I really like the colour temperature and looks premium without going too blue on the scale.
When it comes to discussing whether or not the bulbs add 100% more light to the road, hands down these bulbs clearly light up the road exceptionally well and in my opinion, they do a significantly better job than the standard bulbs. You can see from the picture below that the road coverage is incredible.
I don’t think it would be safe to emit any more light than this from the front of your car. The Ring High-performance Xenon HID D1S RU85402100 bulbs have been the perfect upgrade for the Golf GTI and certainly improve the night time driving.
