So, here is the first of the 6 articles, that will eventually showcase what I think would make the ultimate dream garage. To start off with I thought I would go for the daily driver, as it is the car that everyone needs, and uses the majority of the time, hence the name. A number of different cars came to mind when I thought about this article, from the R34 GT-R, to the Dodge Hellcat, even an Aston Martin Vanquish. But in the end I decided to go for something a little more rare, which will not just be handy when it comes to reselling the car, but also for bragging rights. So, sticking with my JDM fantasies I have chosen the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition!
What’s So Special About The V1 Tommi Makinen Evo?
With only 2,500 models being made, the Makinen Evo is a car that you are likely to never see on your daily travels, however if you did see one, you sure as hell wouldn’t miss it. Featuring 17-inch Enkei wheels, limited edition Recaro race seats and a Momo steering wheel as stock, the Makinen may well be the only Evo made to stay stock. The engine itself already has the potential, pushing out 280bhp and 275lb-ft of torque, the heart of this monster can take the car to 60mph in 4.6 seconds, and reach a top speed of 150mph. All of this helps to make the Makinen Evo one of the most exciting but usable daily drivers
What Do Others Say About The Makinen Evo?
I’m not the only one that adores the Makinen, as you might be thinking. Evo, who are one of the biggest automotive magazines themselves say that the Makinen is their favourite ever Mitsubishi Evo, and have given it 5 out of 5 stars, and say that the only drawback is how unsubtle the Evo is! Pistonheads as well are in love with the Makinen, “the greatest, most definitive Evo of them all, because it has the uncanny knack of making the driver feel special.” They also go on to say, “very few cars will be able to keep up, let alone catch-up,” and finish with my favourite statement about the Makinen, “for once, here’s a car that lives up to the fanboy hype.
Where Can I Buy One?
Really, if it came down to me buying a Makinen I would have to go for one in the signature red, however in terms of finding one for sale at the moment I have come across a stunning example in white. With only 60,000 miles on the clock, this example just may be the best available in the market and the moment, featuring Ohlins suspension, a new exhaust system and a new sports clutch this example is also packed full of extras. The car has also had the timing belt changed recently, and any scratches have been professionally repainted, the only fault being a small scratch on a rear door panel. With an asking price of just £17,695, which includes 12 months warranty, full registration and valeting, this example will not just bring a hell of a lot of fun to its new owner, but if looked after properly is one of the best investments you could make, looking at the way these incredible Evo’s are going. Conclusion
In conclusion, the reason that I chose the Mitsubishi Evolution Tommi Makinen edition was due to to the rarity of this model, how extreme its performance is, but also how usable this car would be. All of these help to make it be, in my opinion, the best daily driver you could buy…
