Jaguar last attempted to turn a road going concept into an ultra high-performance road going monster with the XJ220 – a car with a top speed of 220mph. The XJ220, though stunning to look at, was not well received. Forward to the present day and Jaguar are back with an unparalleled achievement, the same 220mph top speed from 1.6 litre petrol engine with a couple of electric motors strapped on too boot!
There is obviously more to it than that, but even with all of the headline statistics of 800+ BHP, mind bending CO2 emissions and input from Williams Race Teams technicians, words alone can’t do just to what an achievement this is. The following video (including Jags top guys struggling to contain themselves) is the easiest and most enjoyable way to take in just what a technical achievement this is yet still be a stunning looking car.
I can’t help but think that all the people who have rushed out to place orders for their P1′s, LaFerrari’s or 918 Spyder’s maybe be wishing they’d held out to see what Jaguar had under wraps. The future of the ‘Hyper-car’ is proving to be interesting than the petrol-heads could ever have imagined…
