LEVC’s Electric TX Overtakes Diesel in London: A Cleaner, Greener Future for Black Cabs

The LEVC electric TX taxi has overtaken its diesel-powered predecessor, the TX4, as the most common black cab in London. Here’s why this is a significant moment for the capital.

A Positive Contribution to Air Quality

LEVC’s eCity technology, which powers the TX, has been revolutionary in the taxi industry. Since it was introduced in 2018, the TX has travelled more than 534 million miles globally and prevented 162,000 tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere. With each new TX on the road, thousands of tonnes of harmful emissions are prevented, helping to create healthier and happier cities.

A Sustainable Mobility Solution for Urban Environments

The TX is an accessible and inclusive vehicle for all, with flexible space for up to six passengers and an integrated wheelchair ramp, allowing the TX to accommodate a forward-facing wheelchair – the only taxi of its kind to do so. LEVC’s TX is a sustainable mobility solution perfectly suited for urban environments.

A Step Towards Zero-Emission Capable Fleet

Helen Chapman, Transport for London’s Director of Licensing and Regulation, stated that “almost half of the entire taxi fleet is now zero emissions capable and there are now more LEVC TX taxis than any model of diesel black cabs in the capital. Alongside reductions to emissions, these modern vehicles deliver a really comfortable experience for both driver and passenger.”

A New Direction for LEVC

LEVC has recently announced a new brand strategy to become a leading zero-carbon mobility technology company, committed to delivering smart, green, safe, and accessible mobility solutions to more people than ever before. The company has come a long way since its beginning in 1908 when the first dedicated black cab was commissioned for use.

A Cleaner, Greener Future for Black Cabs

LEVC’s electric TX taxi is the world’s most advanced electric taxi and a cornerstone of London’s identity. The new fleet has resulted in a positive impact on air quality in the city, contributing to a cleaner, greener future. With each new TX on the road, we are one step closer to a zero-emission capable fleet, making London’s iconic black cabs not only an accessible and inclusive mode of transport, but also a sustainable one.
