Mazda 6e Revealed as Stylish Electric Hatchback Arriving in 2026

The Mazda 6 is known for being a dependable, if not stunning, family car. It hasn’t been on sale since 2023, leaving a non-SUV-shaped hole in Mazda’s family car lineup. The new Mazda 6e aims to fill that hole, with the added bonus of an electric powertrain to reduce the emissions of ferrying kids to and from school. Like the combustion model, it’s handsome and has the practicality needed to withstand the rigours of family life.

A New Design Philosophy Done the Right Way

The 6e introduces the evolution of Mazda’s styling. The low roofline and sporty saloon profile perhaps hand out cheques the performance can’t cash, but the hatchback ensures practicality won’t be an issue. The new wing lights at the front will make the Mazda 6e stand out in rearview mirrors and they flutter when the car is charging, and display the charging status.

From the side it’s sleek and the 19-inch wheels are not only sporty but also boost range thanks to their aerodynamic design. The rear features tiny rear lights with the same design as other Mazda offerings, while the light bar reinforces the slick, sporty aesthetic. Mazda lettering replaces the badge, something many manufacturers are doing, and the rear spoiler extends electronically to boost stability and street cred.

Light and Technology Blend for More Style

Inside, the Mazda 6e is almost as suave as it is outside. The panoramic roof lets in lots of light and Mazda has designed the layout with this in mind. The floating centre console and instrument panel enhance the feeling of space. In terms of tech, there’s a 14.6-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch instrument set, complemented by an augmented reality head-up display.

Premium materials will feature throughout the interior of the Mazda 6e, with Takumi trim offering the choice of beige or black artificial leather and Takumi Plus including tan Nappa leather. Excellent passenger space is promised, with a 330-litre boot and a 70-litre storage area under the bonnet.

Pick Your Powertrain

The Mazda 6e is being launched with two powertrain options. The 68.8 kWh version offers a range of up to 300 miles and, with 254 hp, it has a 0-62 mph time of 7.6 seconds. The 80 kWh option offers up to 345 miles of range, albeit with slightly less power and a 0-62 mph time of 7.8 seconds. Both support DC rapid charging, with the smaller battery variant able to gain a range of 145 miles in just 15 minutes.

The Mazda 6e will go on sale in Europe later this year, with UK sales beginning next year. Pricing and full specifications will be revealed in due course, although the 6e is likely to be available from less than £45,000.
