Mitsubishi L200 Warrior Series 5 2015 – 7 Day Diary

After spending one week with the Mitsubishi L200 Warrior Series 5 here is how we spent our time with the car.

Day 1 – First Impressions

Waiting to receive the Mitsubishi L200 Warrior I was quite looking forward to testing out the truck, most of the work we do is around passenger cars and so this was going to be a little bit different. Once the truck arrived I took a quick look around it and it looked great. It was in bright blue with black wheels and had all the chrome touches, front to back. I gave myself the thumbs up and looked forward to the week ahead.

Day 2 – Getting Used to Driving a Pickup

With 24 hours behind the wheel of the pickup it’s safe to say I was pretty happy with the car. The L200, because of the running gear and suspension, feels similar to a van, but that’s not to say it is a bad thing. It’s actually a pretty nice place to be inside the car and you can take four passages in complete comfort, as well as the load in the back. The only difficult thing about the car so far is that it is huge. The car will completely fill any parking space you take it to, so you need to take a little more care manoeuvring the car at times.

Day 3 – A Workhorse In Town

As ever with the cars we feature we are keen to get the best possible pictures to show off the car. We wanted to create some pictures that are very different to the images we’ve seen in the press. We took the commercial car to an urban environment to capture a selection of shots in some run down yet colourful scenes. Taking a look around the car during the shoot we were very impressed with the finer details of the car and it looked great everywhere we took it.

Day 4 – Load Space

After using the pickup for four days, I still hadn’t fully utilised the load space you get with it in and had been racking my brain trying to find something enormous that I could stick in the back. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t anything that week that I needed to move in such a large load space. But you only really need to look at the back to know it’s a good bit of practical space, although if I was to purchase the L200 Warrior for myself I would probably go for the additional boot cover to secure the load space as most of my needs would have been moving smaller objects, and wouldn’t trust that my cargo wouldn’t get stolen.

Day 5 – Second Photo shoot in the Country

Ross Jukes and I took a 5am start to get the Warrior out into the countryside and capture some nice pictures of the Series 5 L200. On location with the sun peeking up over the fields and the car in place all we had to do was wait for the sun to rise. Once the sun was up I think it actually worked out for a very nice picture of the L200, the car just looks at home off-road.

After the sun had risen and we had got the pictures we wanted, we took the car to various off-road and country locations trying a selection of different shots to see what worked. Here are some of my favourites.

Day 6 – Pulling Power and Efficiency

I used the Mitsubishi L200 back and forth to the office through busy city centre traffic all week, yet it barely affected the mpg of the car. I probably did around 300 miles and only used around half a tank of diesel. I have been so impressed with the performance and the fuel efficiency of the car. And even through busy stop-start traffic the manual gearbox hasn’t been too much of a challenge.

Day 7 – Looking Back on my Week

I have certainly enjoyed my seven days with the L200 Warrior; every aspect about the car makes you feel manlier. We have had the car in graffiti covered environments and taken the car off road, yet we haven’t managed to make the car feel out of place anywhere. The car was comfortable to drive and incredibly efficient, I would have liked to test moving a heavy load on the back of the pickup, but I’m sure the car would’ve coped amazingly.
