2019 Fiat 500X Cross Plus Review

2019 Fiat 500X Cross Plus Review

We tested out the 2019 Fiat 500X Cross Plus. Here is what we thought about it.

What is the Fiat 500X Cross Plus about?

Aesthetics are the main reason a wide majority of people will opt for the Fiat 500X. The 500X reflects the same shape as that of the 500 but is significantly bigger and more spacious as compared to the original 500. It has the iconic looks, but the modern-day small SUV practicalities.

Compared to the initial 500X, the 2019 car comes with quite a few updates. The newer model comes with a facelift, more modern bumper designs that sport protective faux skid plates for that go off-road look. There are new LED DRLs inside updated headlights and the rear lights have now been upgraded to LEDs as standard.

The 2019 Fiat 500X Cross Plus comes with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. The 1.0-litre engine produces 120 hp. The power is transferred to the wheels with the aid of a 6-speed manual gearbox. It gives the Fiat 500X the ability to accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.9 seconds with a top speed of 117 mph.

How does it drive?

The Fiat, 500x Cross Plus, may sound a little slow with a 1.0-litre petrol engine. However, that is not the case when it comes to driving in reality. The engine produces 120 hp which gives a punchy driving experience and would prove suitable for most consumers. From an economic aspect, the car does pretty impressively offering 39 miles to the gallon.

The 500X Cross Plus comes with large 18-inch alloys, which look great, you might think they are not ideal to soak up the bumps on the road, but alongside the suspension, they don’t do too bad of a job.

Generally, the car delivers a smooth and consistent ride. The vehicle provides decent handling, feeling stable, and solid around corners. The light steering wheel makes manoeuvring a breeze. Meaning that parking or driving around the city is no problem at all.

Safety features include Traffic Sign Recognition and Speed Advisor. The two elements combine to read the road signs and alarm the driver if he/she is going too fast. The autonomous emergency braking system is now a base feature on the car giving you peace of mind when you need it.

What is it like inside?

The iconic Fiat 500 looks continue as we go inside the car. The interior is made out of plastic but feels premium to the touch in most places, but it may feel a little inferior when it comes to its competitors, for instance, the Seat Arona or the Hyundai Kona.

The steering wheel controls are pretty sturdy and provide fantastic accessibility to all the commonly used features allowing the driver to stay focused while interacting with the car. The 7.0-inch touch screen infotainment system features Android Auto and Apple Carplay for smartphone connectivity. The screen may seem a little smaller looking at it from a broader horizon, but it is pretty easy to navigate. Additionally, there is a USB port and a 3.5mm Aux jack underneath the A.C controls.

The Fiat 500x was designed for customers who are looking for a more practical option over the small 500 city, car and it delivers on that. The seats are pretty spacious and comfortable; the rear seats can comfortably seat two adults and a child with plenty of headspace. The boot space could have been better, it provides a capacity of 350 litres, but with the folding rear seats, space can be further enhanced as and when you need it.

The experience

The best part of the 2019 Fiat 500X besides the catchy looks, is the fact that it is more fun to drive now with a peppy 1.0-litre engine and there is lots of space which makes it an overall better option in terms of value for money.

Fiat 500X Cross Plus Cost

The Fiat 500X Cross Plus costs £21,300. This price tag is for the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine. In terms of maintenance, the Fiat 500X has had pretty positive reviews so far in terms of its overall built and reliability. The Italian manufacturer still offers three years, unlimited mileage warranty.

Verdict

If you are looking for a practical option in the market without compromising on the looks of the car then the Fiat 500x Cross Plus will top the list for you. The car offers all the bells and whistles you would expect from a 2019 manufactured car. You can’t go wrong with the Fiat 500X Cross Plus. In fact, if you love the whole Fiat 500 cute aesthetics, then the 500X Cross Plus is one of a kind.
