Everything You Should Know About the 2019 Silk Way Rally

If you follow extreme sporting events, you have probably heard of the Silk Way Rally. It is one of the largest extreme motorsport races in the world. 

This rally type race is known for extreme terrain and pushing the boundaries of many motorsport enthusiasts. 

This race is globally known and takes place over several countries during several days. It has become a top spectator event as well.

Rally History

The Silk Way Rally started in 2009. It began in Irkutsk, Russia bridging a social and economical gap between Russia and China. 

The rally raid race has motorists travelling over 5,000km through 10 different stages. Some stages are even timed. 

The SIlk Way name is representative of the connection between all the countries in the area of the ancient Silk Way Road. The connection was made to emphasize the important development of the social and economic relationship between Russia and China.

In it’s beginning stages, the rally race was open to cars and trucks. The ten year anniversary of the race now sees an opening for motorbikes and quads. 

The SIlk Way Rally is an extreme sporting event with thousands of spectators each year. This race tests not only the drivers themselves but also the machines they operate. 

Rally Stats

The Silk Way Rally offers contestants the ability to test their equipment on some of the most diverse terrains. 

There are two overall categories each with their own unique qualifying rules. You may enter under the car or truck category and now in 2019 under the motorbike or quad category. 

The race itself spans 10 days and covers 10 stages. This race is completed in some of the harshest terrain, testing the limits of seasoned drivers, racing technology, and tire performance.

Between 2010 and 2013, the race had over 1,000 competitors representing 30 countries. This made the Silk Way Rally globally the largest cross country rally competition in the world. 

In 2016, the rally race reached a new level of cross country competition. For the first time in history, a route connecting Russia, Kazakhstan and China from Moscow to Beijing. 

In 2019, at the ten year anniversary of the race, the Silk Way Rally became a candidate for FIA World Cup in the cross country rally division. 

This brought a great deal of organization to the competition. The Federation Internationale de L’Automobile is known as the governing body for many auto racing events.

It is a way to promote safety and organized construction for racers. It consists of 246 member organizations in 145 countries. 

In 2019, the race is to cover five climate zones. This makes the rally race one of the most diverse in terrain and climate, pushing its competitors to the brink or racing heights. 

Giti Tire

Giti has been devoted in motorsports for over 10 years. They have won hundreds of awards for their racing technology. 

Giti Tire Group is headquartered in Singapore. Their company started in 1951. They are one of the world’s largest tire companies. 

Giti has over eight production centers in three countries. They recently opened a new facility in the United States in the state of South Carolina. 

Giti Tire submitted two vehicles for the Silk Way Rally this year. Their objective, to test their products in extreme environments and conditions. 

Giti’s Toyota Hilux team sporting the Giti4x4 AT70 all -terrain tires took on complex and changing weather conditions throughout some of the harshest terrains. 

The race had them travelling through forests, grasslands, deserts, and mountains. The rough conditions of the rally race route were optimal for allowing their tires to fully be put to the test. 

The all-terrain tires exceeded Giti’s expectations. Holding up throughout the race and handling the harsh terrain of the route. 

Other Silk Way Rally Competitors

What makes the Silk Way Rally such a prestigious event to be a part of is the fact that it covers such a wide array of off-road vehicles. 

With the addition of motorbikes and quads in 2019, the categories to enter became even broader. 

Companies who originally could not enter due to the category restrictions now have been able to put drivers and technology to the test within their niche. 

Some of the top racers from the 2019 Silk Way Rally, are already preparing for the next race. This competition is all about seeing how far they can push the limits of man and machine. 

The truck category this year featured 15 trucks produced by both domestic and foreign companies. Some of the top competitors were KAMAZ, GAZ, Renault, MAZ, HINO, and Iveco. 

The KAMAZ team took one of the top five spots this year. Beating out some of the best in the industry. 

In the cars category, Nasser Al-Attiyah, drive for the Toyota Gazoo team successfully dominated the first sixe stages of the rally race. In ending, the team came out on top. 

Many professional motorbike companies have come to the Silk Way this year, due to the opening for motorbikes and quads. 

Teams like Red Bull, Monster Energy, and Yamaha all had a chance to test the limits on this extreme terrain route.

The Silk Way Rally is definitely a unique motorsport experience. Not only is it a popular spectator sport but it is also a globally known race for seasoned divers and companies.
