It’s no small secret that Mazda has taken a somewhat relaxing scenic route when it comes to electrification. As its compatriots have accelerated their transition to EVs or have swapped to electric vehicles entirely, here in the UK, Mazda offers only a singular EV, the MX-30 SUV. But, it looks like they’ve finally caught up, and that momentum is massively shocking, with Mazda having shown off what their electrified future might look like, in the form of the super sleek, jaw-droppingly beautiful Mazda6e. That name may conjure up a bit of nostalgia for some, as the Mazda6e is meant to be the electric successor to the Mazda6, sold from 2002 to 2023.
Best of all for us here in the UK, this really handsome five-door all-electric fastback, which was designed exclusively for the European market, will be launched in left-hand drive markets, too! As such, you could expect a UK-bound release at your local Mazda dealership sometime in the first half of 2026. For the time being, UK-specific pricing and specs haven’t been announced as of yet, but they’ll be here when the Mazda6e is closer to launch. Nevertheless, we already know a bit about the Mazda6e, such as its choice of two battery sizes… A standard 68.8kWh pack, as well as a ‘long-range’ 80.0kWh option, both offering varying range and performance, to boot.
A Sleek, Sporty New Mazda For An Electrified Era
The aforementioned ‘standard’ 68.8kWh battery offers a respectable output of 258PS, with a 0-62mph time of 7.6 seconds, and it affords you a range of up to 300 miles. If you plug it into 200kW DC fast chargers, this battery could top up from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. Aside from that, there’s the 80.0kWh battery pack, which actually gives you a slight reduction of power, in return for more range. Specifically, you’d instead get 244PS (though both models do come with the same 300Nm torque output) and a 0-62mph time of 7.8 seconds. On the other hand, it gives you up to 345 miles of range, with a 10%-80% fast charge in 45 minutes.
Speaking of DC fast charging, that 68.8kWh battery pack could add a whopping 145 miles of range in just 15 minutes of charge using a 200kW charger. While the new Mazda6e is an EV, you don’t have to worry that Mazda’s signature driver-focused driving experience and sporty feel aren’t going away anytime soon! With the Mazda6e, for instance, both those models come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) exclusively, blending the efficiency and eco-consciousness of an EV, while also retaining that engaging dynamism and sportiness that we know and love from Mazda. This also meant that Mazda had to refine it to match European and UK preferences.
Bridging Mazda’s Heritage With Electric Newness
With that in mind, the Mazda6e was calibrated and fine-tuned at the Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt, where the suspension, power steering, and braking setups were tweaked further to best suit our roads. Hopefully, then, Mazda could account for the UK’s truly horrendous and bone-shattering potholes and undulations when sorting out the Mazda6e’s suspension before bringing it over to this side of the pond! Yet, as European as its underpinnings might be, you’ll probably be glad to hear that the Mazda6e is shamelessly Japanese, in all the best ways. You can’t find a better place to witness this than Mazda’s ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ styling.
This design language is prominent in the Mazda6e, with its sleek, coupe-like silhouette, and its minimalistic aesthetics. From the frameless doors to the flush door handles, not to mention that new, illuminated front grille, as well as its aerodynamic touches, such as the 19-inch alloy wheels. And, it gets even better once you step inside, with its spacious and simple cabin. You’ll find a pleasantly airy interior space, complemented by a floating centre console and dash, in addition to a couple of fancy new screens, and a vast boot in the back, too! With that in mind, if first impressions are anything to go by, the Mazda6e is quite the shocker, indeed!
