I’ve worked on cars of all shapes and sizes, from SUVs and off-roaders, to econoboxes and vans, among many others.
Through the many vehicles that have passed through my garage, it’s helped me accrue valuable insights and knowledge of how cars work. Moreover, how to diagnose even the most minute and mind-boggling issues with a car, as well as troubleshooting them to get your four-wheeled friend up and running again.
The Humble Beginnings
My relationship with cars began not in the plush seats of a luxury vehicle but beneath the hood of a beat-up old junk car. As a young lad, I was always curious about how things worked, and motorcars, with their intricate systems and mechanisms, were a mystery I was always keen and eager to unravel.
Many a weekend was spent in our family garage, with tools in hand, trying to decipher the language of engines and transmissions, brakes and suspensions, wheels and interiors… Most of the cars that I had to work with were economy cars, mostly Japanese, from the likes of Toyota, Suzuki, Nissan, and Honda.
However, my many years in the automotive industry have since acquainted me with cars from around the world, from European luxury saloons to big American pickup trucks. In breaking apart cars and learning how they work, it struck me just how diverse and unique cars can be from other parts of the globe.
From Curiosity to Mastery
As the years rolled on, my casual interest transformed into a profound passion. I found myself not just fixing cars but understanding them, delving deep into their mechanics, and learning the nuances of each individual component. I have pretty much catalogued the complexities of vehicle systems in my head.
My hands-on approach meant that I wasn’t just reading about car problems; I was experiencing them, diagnosing them, and finding solutions. Given that I came from a frugal background where fixing up a broken car meant counting pennies and cutting corners, maximising a repair job is my speciality.
This is what inspired me to join Motor Verso and share my experiences. Just because cars can be quite complicated and problems are only compounded by that, this doesn’t mean that fixing a fault has to be overly pricey. Nor, does this mean that car ownership needs to bankrupt you with the running costs.
One of my goals is to guide you in diagnosing and troubleshooting car problems in the cheapest way yet – but still be an effective, safe, and long-lasting solution. If a mechanic tells you that a repair might cost a fortune, my vision here is to instead tell you that the same repair could be done for a mere fraction.
