The Evolution of the Vauxhall Corsa

There are few vehicles more iconic than the Vauxhall Corsa in the UK. It may not be the most glamorous, but it has been a UK favourite since it was produced under the Vauxhall brand in 1993. It has an interesting history as it was originally engineered and produced by German manufacturer Opel in 1982 but would later be sold under Vauxhall.

Early Years

As such a historic automobile, the Corsa has undergone many changes over the years with 5 generations and many alternations being made. The first model to arrive in the UK, the B model, featured 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 litre Family 1 Petrol engines with either 88bhp or 104bhp. In 2000, the C-Generation arrived with the top model available in a 1.8 Sri capable of 126 mph along with an updated look. Adaptations

The Vauxhall Corsa VXR arrived in 2007 with a sporty style to go along with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 189 bhp. The Corsa D was also available in 3 and 5 door and would finished second in the European Car of the Year awards in 2006. The fifth generation arrived in 2014 which featured the same interior space but a revamped and modern style.

New Changes

Vauxhall has also recently announced revisions to the range with model updates and new Euro 6.2 compliant engines. The range will also feature more tech as standard, including Navi 4.0 IntelliLink touchscreen navigation and infotainment system. There are also options such as the rear-view camera, tinted rear windows, single zone climate control and more. Importantly, the new engines are capable of up to 50.4mpg with CO2 emissions of just 128 g/km. It boasts a 0-62 time of 8.9 seconds with to speeds of 128mph.

The Vauxhall Corsa has been an important part of UK motoring for many years and remains one of the most popular automobiles on the road. It has undergone many big changes over the years but managed to retain its charm with the latest updates making it more stylish, economical and enjoyable to drive.
