The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed is an Exclusive Tribute to Racing

If you’re a fan of racing, exclusive things, and happen to be a multi-millionaire, the new Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed might just be the car for you. Only 250 examples of the distinctive performance car are going to be made as Mercedes-Benz starts its Mythos series of limited-edition models.

A Design That Oozes Racing

The bonkers sportscar has no roof or windscreen but does feature a HALO in case of a crash (no points for guessing which motorsport inspired it). Customers will get two bespoke, aerodynamic helmets in the same colour as the car, with an intercom system that can even play music when paired with one of the occupants’ phones. Buyers will also get two different car covers, with the one for the outside particularly useful for keeping the interior dry.

The design is a tale of two quite different Mercedes-AMG models. The front resembles the AMG ONE, with its low, aggressive front end, wide air intake and the badge on the bonnet, while the side and rear are similar to the SL which it is based on. There are more aerodynamic touches around the PureSpeed than on the SL, to reduce the effects of the wind on the people inside. It comes in an exclusive Silver Arrow finish in mystic silver mango, while other motorsport-inspired designs are available.

No Skimping on Luxury Inside

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed has a familiar interior, with the layout carried over from the SL. However, unlike the SL, it has two-tone leather and AMG Performance seats with special leather covers and unique decorative stitching. There’s greater use of leather throughout, as well as the odd bit of carbon fibre, and deep-pile AMG floor mats.

Onto the more premium differences. The dashboard houses a custom-made clock from IWC Schaffhausen, which lights up. There’s also a Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System and a badge that reads ‘1 out of 250’.

The Driving Experience to Match

The PureSpeed uses a composite aluminium chassis to ensure rigidity while also being lightweight. The use of active aero improves grip, with the rear spoiler adopting five different positions above 50 mph. There are also active features underneath the body, increasing the downforce and lowering the front axle. The front axle can also be lifted to avoid any expensive scrapes.

The Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed uses a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 with 577hp and 800Nm of torque. Combined with a 9-speed semi-automatic transmission, it covers 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 196 mph.

AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive allows the driver to configure the amount of traction they want, promising stability in all conditions, as does active rear-axle steering. AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with semi-active hydraulic roll stabilisation reduces roll in corners and increases comfort on bumpy roads. The 6-piston fixed brake callipers at the front and 1-piston floating callipers at the rear come in black with white AMG logos.
