It is built on an all-new architecture and wrapped in a stunning new design that honours its iconic Jeep design heritage.” – Christian Meunier, global president of Jeep brand
In the second quarter of 2021, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L arrives in Jeep dealerships in the US; all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee two-row and 4xe electrified version scheduled to debut later in 2021 with the release of OEM parts for 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
New Features
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L’s renowned 4×4 system comes with improved performance including Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited slip-differential (eLSD).
The Jeep Quadra-Lift air suspension is exclusive to Jeep. It includes ground clearance, water fording, electronic dampening, and automatic shock tuning adjustments to change in road conditions. There are also five height settings for enhanced and controlled ride performance.
The Selec-Terrain traction management system electronically controls up to six different systems, 4×4 torque split, braking and handling, steering and suspension systems, transfer and traction control and anti-lock braking system (ABS). The five available terrain modes are Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow and Mud/Sand.
Jeep have announced more than 110 safety and security features such as Head-up Display, Advanced Brake Assist and Intersection Collision assist. The combination of these features is to provide enhanced vision, assistance and confidence for the driver and his connection to the road.
Which Engine?
Buyers of the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L are offered the choice of two powerful and refined engines. The first is the standard all-aluminium 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine with 348Nm of torque delivering features such as exhaust manifolds within cylinder heads, upgraded engine start-stop (ESS) technology and variable-valve timing (VVT).
For buyers looking for a more powerful engine, they can purchase a 5.7litre V8, with 528Nm torque. Fuel Saver Technology, as well as VVT, accompanies the V8 so the engine control computer turns off fuel when full power is not needed.
Grand Cherokee L Interior
“The objective for the interior design team was to create a unique statement for 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.” – Chris Benjamin, head of Jeep, Chrysler and advanced interior design.
The interior is exquisite upon entry, with a spacious deck, a rich mix of handcrafted materials and sleek modern technologies – such as a new 10.25-inch frameless digital gauge cluster which can be controlled by an all-new multifunction steering wheel.
The Grand Cherokee L now features larger second-row door openings than before, and for the first time, premium seating for six or seven passengers. The addition of second-row bucket seats can be removed easily to create more room for the third row.
Increased cargo volume means that when the second and third-row seats recline, the maximum cargo space available is an impressive 2,395 litres.
Exterior
“A clean and updated premium appearance tailored for today’s customer… The design for the first-ever three-row Grand Cherokee pays respect to its heritage and honours its utilitarian roots” – Mark Allen, head of Jeep exterior design.
Inspired by the original Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee L features a longer bonnet, a forward tipped-grille and a lowered tapered roof. By implementing this, the vehicle looks wider, meaner and improves its aerodynamic performance.
In addition, new LED highlights and signature seven-slot grille has been updated to emphasise the width of the Jeep. For the first time, 21-inch wheels come standard with the Summit Reserve Package, with signature trapezoidal wheel arches.
Lightweight aluminium closures on the vehicle, such as on the bonnet and boot help reduce weight and the body structure employs the strongest Generation 3 steel. Energy absorption, boosting fuel economy and durability are results of such an innovative body structure.
New Technologies
A digital-first for the new vehicle is a rear-seat monitoring camera system in which you can view the second-row, rear-seat occupants and can revert to the traditional reflective mirror. Available on Limited, Overland and Summit models, this is a feature that enhances the safety of passengers.
FCA is the only manufacturer that has installed the world-class McIntosh sound system within the Grand Jeep Cherokee. Superb audio performance is directed through 19-custom designed speakers that complement the vehicles unique interior volume and layout.
The all-new Uconnect 5 system features the latest and most advanced features, using an Android operating system and a 10.1-inch touchscreen display. Some of the services are customisable app setting, Wireless AppleCarPlay and Alexa.
