Former pro skateboarder Rob Dyrdek successfully set a Guinness World Record for the “Farthest Reverse Ramp Jump by a Car,” after launching the Chevrolet Sonic RS 89 feet and 3 inches… in reverse. Wow!
Guinness World Record For Reverse Jump
The stunt was performed in a car park off the Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park in the USA as part of a reality show, Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.
The Sonic RS reverses at speed towards one ramp, engine bouncing off its rev limiter, before flying in the air and landing safely on another ramp.
Previous Record Held by Top Gear
Previously, the record for this stunt was 61 feet and 2 inches, set in 2008 by a stuntman reversing an Austin Allegro for the TV series Top Gear. Come on Top Gear…sort it out!
The sonic isn’t available in the UK. The RS is the obvious sporty version with shorter gear ratios to optimise the performance punch of its 138bhp, 1.4-litre turbocharged inline four cylinder engine. The Chevrolet Sonic RS also has a racier body kit, a lower and stiffer suspension, unique 17-inch wheels, and interior niceties like aluminium pedals and a leather-wrapped shifter.
It sounds like a great car, but I wouldn’t want to own this particular car after that jump.
