McLaren Celebrates Over 30 Years Of Le Mans With Special 750S

I know it’s become a bit of a meme these days that McLaren just can’t stop pumping out new special edition cars, but sift through all those bespoke creations, and you’ll find that some are more ‘special’ than others. Back on June 18, 1995, a watershed moment occurred in McLaren’s long history, as the #59 F1 GTR driven by JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas and Masanori Sekiya won overall victory in that year’s edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Even more impressive was the fact that it won despite competing against faster purpose-built prototypes, and in heavy rain, too!

So, to mark and commemorate the three decades since its maiden Le Mans triumph, the new 750S received a bit of a special edition makeover, limited to just 50 examples worldwide. This tribute model couldn’t come any sooner, either, as it’ll soon celebrate McLaren’s return to the top class of endurance racing in 2027. No doubt the most distinctive feature of this very spicy McLaren 750S is the High Downforce Kit (HDK), developed by McLaren Special Operations (or ‘MSO’), which aims to add even more substantial aerodynamic bite over the regular 750S.

Engineered To Cut Through The Air

Most notably, you get a raised active carbon fibre rear spoiler (with integrated endplates), as well as an enlarged front splitter (finished in gloss black carbon fibre), and the louvred under-wing panel (for improved airflow management) below the car. Altogether, these should boost downforce by 10% versus your typical 750S, further sharpening traction on the track and high-speed stability, to boot. To add to that, the new McLaren 750S Le Mans edition gets a huge amount of carbon fibre components, making this one of McLaren’s lightest sports coupes, yet.

For instance, you might notice the carbon monocoque structure, all those HDK bits are carbon, as is the interior trim, and more. So, despite all the aerodynamic tacked-on paraphernalia, this should keep weight down to a minimum. Underneath all that, you mostly get the same engine as in the regular 750S, which is McLaren’s celebrated 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 powertrain, which is tuned to produce – yep, you guessed it! – 750 PS. Combined with rather clever electronics, the new 750S has already proven itself on track with class-leading agility and responsiveness.

Elevating The 750S To The Next Level

Of course, it wouldn’t be a special edition car without some flash of colour to set it apart, and the new McLaren 750S Le Mans edition certainly has that in abundance. You could spec it with either a Le Mans Grey or McLaren Orange paint, and they’re paired with a gloss-black carbon fibre roof scoop, a set of carbon fibre front fender louvres, and gold brake callipers that come with a red McLaren logo. You’ll also find subtle ‘Le Mans’ graphics and titanium exhaust tips, and there’s also my personal favourite, these very stealthy, unique 5-spoke LM wheels.

Those wheels ought to look pretty nice wrapped around the standard Pirelli P ZERO tyres, and for those of you keen on taking the 750S Le Mans to the track, you could also opt for a P ZERO Corsa or Trofeo R set of optional tyres, too. The interior gets a special cosmetic treatment, too, with special carbon fibre inserts, lightweight bucket seats, embossed ‘Le Mans’ badges, and a large sea of Alcantara. While I don’t have such luxury, you could bet that would-be customers with deep pockets may be interested in exploring the vast selection of exclusive MSO options.
