If you’re shopping about for a new luxury, executive, electric car, your decision-making just got a lot harder, as Audi has brought over the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron to British shores. Though I’m still not necessarily a fan of this new Audi design language, I can’t deny that underneath, it is a great EV, which will soon reach an Audi UK showroom near you. The fully electric A6 e-tron, as well as the S6 e-tron, will be available in both Sportback and Avant body styles, and you would be able to expect the first deliveries to be made sometime in February 2025. If you are thinking of buying one, just be warned that both the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron will be quite pricey.
The A6 e-tron, Sportback and Avant, will start from £69,900 and £71,700, respectively. If these just aren’t fast enough for you, the S6 e-tron, Sportback and Avant, will have a starting price of £97,500 and £99,300, respectively. When you’re spec’ing yours, the A6 e-tron will come with 3 different trim levels – the Sport, S Line, and top-of-the-line Edition 1. Meanwhile, the Audi S6 e-tron will only exclusively come in one trim level – the Edition 1 trim. Now, as much as I may not like how these new A6s look, they do serve an aerodynamic purpose. The A6, for example, has a drag coefficient of just 0.21 (or 0.24 for the Avant), making it Audi’s slipperiest car yet.
Audi’s Mid-Size Legends Get Electrified
Aside from all that aero, these new Audis pack some serious horsepower, too. The A6 e-tron is powered by a single, rear-mounted motor, outputting a healthy 380PS. That’ll be good for a 0 to 62mph sprint in 5.4 seconds, before topping out at 130mph. That’s not bad for an executive saloon. On the other hand, the S6 e-tron has dual motors – one for each axle – cranking out an impressive 550PS. This is good for a 0 to 62mph sprint in just 3.9 seconds before you reach its 149mph top speed. Additionally, for those of you worried about range anxiety, then worry not, as the Audi A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron both come with the same 94.9kWh battery pack.
For the A6 e-tron, Audi claims a range of 463 miles and 437 miles for the Sportback and Avant models, respectively. Given that you’re dealing with more raw power, the S6 e-tron has a lower range, as expected. You’re looking at about 405 miles and 388 miles for the Sportback and the Avant model, accordingly. Overall, that’s pretty respectable, more so given that Audi has given the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron their newest 800-volt architecture. Moreover, with its 270kW peak charging rate, a 10% to 80% charge could be done in under 30 minutes. Or, if you’re in a pinch, a quick 10-minute top-up at a fast charger is enough to give your new Audi 192 extra miles.
A Feast Of New Technology And Luxury
Of course, there is more to driving an Audi besides its looks and performance – there’s also the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron’s updated interiors. Inside, you get two massive screens – an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 14.5-inch infotainment system. Interestingly, the infotainment will run on Android Automotive, though with some Audi-specific features (like a route planner and an app store), and you’ll receive over-the-air updates, to boot. Speaking of tech, the A6 e-tron and S6 e-tron will come with a bevvy of driving aids as standard, which include adaptive cruise control, emergency brake assist, cross-traffic assist, and more to help you as you drive.
On top of that, some trims get a bird’s eye view camera system, a 360-degree surround camera, as well as a parking assist feature. If you’re wondering about what the higher trim levels offer you in return, it mostly encompasses nice-to-haves, such as heated front and rear seats, some microfiber upholstery, a heated steering wheel, massage seats, 3D audio system, or you could even get an extra 10.9-inch screen just for the front passenger. Thus far, I have a good feeling about these new electric Audis, and if they’re anything like what came before, that’s already a good start. All I’m waiting for now is to see what Audi’s idea of an electric RS6 looks like.
