Citroen DS Super 5
If you’ve watched any period dramas set in 1970s France, the chances are you’ve seen one of these – the Citroen DS Super 5. You won’t see many of this stylish motors on the road, in fact I can’t recall the last time I saw one of these on the road. Silverstone Auctions will be offering what is believed to be the ‘best Citroen DS in the world’ and once you see the amount of awards it has won it will be hard to argue that point.
Citroen the Star
Not that we’re counting but this very car has won over 200 awards. Yes, you read that right, 200. Not only is it a multi-award winner but it’s also a star – it’s featured on both Top Gear and Fifth Gear as well as appearing in at least 150 magazines. It’s been offered a permanent place in the national Citroen Museum in France. If that isn’t high praise then I’m not sure what is.
Quite a Prestigious Life
The Blanc Meije coloured Super 5 has just one owner in its lifetime – the CEO of its supplying dealership no less. The car will go under the hammer at the Silverstone Auctions sale at Salon Prive with an estimate of £75,000-£90,000. Yeah I know, that is quite a bit, but there will plenty of documentation as well as full photographic restoration folders and copies of the magazine features.
“Words are not adequate to convey the condition of this important piece of motoring history, it simply must be seen to be believed,” explains Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. “This DS is the kind of car that really gets people excited, and we’re delighted to be offering a car of this staggering quality and reputation in our sale. It’s one of the star cars in the Salon Privé Sale and fits in perfectly as part of our most exclusive sale.”
