Renault Challenge For The Nürburgring Lap Record

The fight for fastest front wheel drive around the Ring continues, and the latest car looking for victory is the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy.

Front Wheel Drive Nürburgring Lap Record

Back in 2008 Renault lapped the Nürburgring in 8:16.9 with the stripped out Megane R26.R. That Nürburgring lap record went unbeaten until 2011, when Renault decided to break it themselves. This set the record to 8:07.9, and was done in the latest Megane at the time. From there on out, everyone wanted a piece of the action, including Honda with the Civic Type R. At the moment Seat are the ones to have flown past Renault with the new Leon Cupra 280, with a time of 7:58.4.

New Megane RS Trophy

So now Renault want their bragging rights back. On the 16th June they plan to visit the Nordschleife with the idea of completing a record breaking front wheel drive fast lap in the latest version of the Megane RS Trophy. The car has a 2.0litre turbo engine that produces 275bhp, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, and a new titanium exhaust system.

Best of luck Renault!
