CUPRA Terramar Hybrid SUV

CUPRA Terramar Halo SUV Has Finally Arrived For UK Customers

The wait is finally over, as CUPRA’s newest sporty mid-size SUV, the Terramar, has finally arrived in the UK! To you and me, it might look like any other crossover SUV. However, for CUPRA, it’s a very big deal. As the brand’s latest foray into the hugely competitive and rapidly growing mid-size SUV segment, the Terramar is the first of its kind for CUPRA. Showcasing that nice blend of the sportiness and cutting-edge tech that you’d expect from them, order books for the Terramar are now open. For such a stylish SUV, a starting price of £37,605 for the entry-level models sounds like an attractive deal, though you could easily max one out for £51,790.

Moreover, you get more than a handful of powertrain options with the new CUPRA Terramar, too! That aforementioned entry-level trim comes paired with a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid, putting out a modest 150PS and 250Nm of torque. Those figures don’t sound like they’d blow your hair away, but for a simple daily driver and commuter car, it ought to be sufficient. Crucially, for speedy trailblazers like us, CUPRA thankfully offers two advanced plug-in hybrid powertrains. Specifically, you’ll find that the CUPRA Terramar’s 1.5 e-HYBRID engine starts off with a 204PS variant, cranking out 350Nm of torque. This is good for a 0 to 62mph time of around 8.3 seconds.

A Unique Blend Of Sportiness And Practicality

On the other end of the hybridised range, that same 1.5 e-HYBRID powertrain could be tuned up to 272PS and 400Nm of torque. That should offer you a hot-hatch-rivalling 0 to 62mph of about 7.3 seconds. Aside from those hybridised powertrains, CUPRA also offers a 2.0-litre petrol engine, available in the higher-end VZ1 and VZ2 trims. It doesn’t just pump out a neat 265PS and 400Nm of torque, but it also comes with all-wheel drive. Although, if you choose that 2.0-litre engine, you do miss out on the PHEV models’ more than 70 miles of all-electric range. That’s actually quite impressive range-wise, compared to some of its rivals.

Further setting the CUPRA Terramar apart is the abundance of posh options and trim levels that you could mix and match to your heart’s content! Alongside the V1, V2, VZ1, and VZ2 models, there’ll also be two exclusive editions of the Terramar. This includes the First Edition model, as well as the America’s Cup Edition, limited to just 1,300 units worldwide. The latter of the two was built to celebrate CUPRA’s partnership with America’s Cup, boasting with it a unique Enceladus Grey Matt colour. Additionally, you’ll also find some exclusive 20-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, distinct leather bucket seats, and special America’s Cup logos, too.

Distinctly CUPRA In Feel, Driving Experience, & Style

Speaking of, the CUPRA Terramar could be finished in one of 9 unique colours, with a styling that’s closely inspired by CUPRA’s DarkRebel Showcar concept from a little while back. To my eyes, the Terramar does look rather cool, at least by SUV standards. The interior appears quite posh and luxurious too, paired with cutting-edge electronics and nice optional upgrades, like a Sennheiser premium sound system. On the subject of options, CUPRA offers a tonne of ways that you could personalise a Terramar just for you. Some of the noteworthy ones include some fetching copper alloy wheels, a panoramic, sunroof, and even space-saver spare wheels.

Personally, I’m quite inclined towards optioning the Akebono performance brakes, which may make enough of a difference for those speedier powertrain options. Improved stopping power aside, for even more peace of mind, CUPRA is offering a shockingly affordable £99 two-year service plan! For early adopters in particular, you might want to consider waiting until around the 22nd of January, 2025, as only then will some of the powertrain options – mainly the 2.0-litre petrol engines with all-wheel drive – will be made available. All in all, though, I quite like what I’m looking at here, so here’s hoping we’ll get to try out the Terramar sometime soon!
