There was a time, literally not too long ago, that pickup trucks were made for utilitarian purposes in mind. They were practical, down to earth, understated, and simple. Oh, but how has the world gone mad for speed, as even trucks have fallen victim. If you ever needed to haul hay bales or lumber with haste, you’ll struggle to find a truck these days that won’t match supercars for 0-60 times.
Hennessey, not keen to sit in second place, decided that the F-150 needs a bit of spicing up. They’ve recently unveiled the VelociRaptor 600, which will soon head into production. It marks a huge step up from Ford’s own Raptor variant of the world’s best-selling truck. The VelociRaptor now sports a not-at-all insane 558bhp and a monstrous 672lb-ft of torque from the F-150’s twin-turbo, 3.5-litre V6.
Carnivorous Amounts Of Power
It’ll hit 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds, which is mostly thanks to a 30% or so increase in torque over the standard Raptor. It’s not a straightforward transformation, however. That extra boost is provided by the inclusion of a high-flow air induction system. On top of that, there’s a beefed-up intercooler with a blow-off valve, upgrades to the intercooler piping, and a lot of changes to the ECU.
If you’re keen about going off-road, Hennessey will also sell you an off-road package, too. You’ll then get gigantic 35-inch off-road tyres (sitting atop a set of 20-inch wheels), and increased ground clearance by 3 whole inches. You better hurry if you want one, though, as Hennessey will only make 250 units of the VelociRaptor 600. Just be ready to write a cheque for around $115,000.
