No, I’m still not quite sure what a bitcoin is, or how one works. What I can tell you though, is that its a digital currency. The reason why this is relevant, is because Auto Trader has discovered the first UK car to be sold only for bitcoins. It’s a rather interesting car too – a Rolls-Royce Ghost, finished in Gold no less. It’s priced at £117,995, but as mentioned, you can only buy it using Bitcoin, so you can put away your cash and your Amex card right now.
What Does It come with?
As well as coming with a high amount of typical Rolls-Royce luxury, this Gold Ghost has 360 degree overhead camera system, active cruise control, automatic breaking, free view television and it’s claimed that it’s the only Rolls-Royce on the market with a rear refrigerator and champagne flutes. There is also a 6.6-litre V12, that is able to propel the Ghost to 60mph in just 4.4 seconds. Just make sure your passengers have got a firm grasp on their champagne flutes before you floor the throttle.
Why is it Bitcoin Only?
Very good question, why make the sale limited to a currency that, let’s face it, not many of us use? Well, here is what the vehicle’s current owner had to say on the matter, “Why not trade in Bitcoin? I treat it in exactly the same way as normal currency these days. It’s safe, convenient and incredibly valuable right now so, to me, it makes sense to trade my car this way. It’s the future”. I thought garlic bread was the future? Never mind.
Auto Trader Editorial Director, Erin Baker, said: “With the meteoric rise in popularity and value of Bitcoin in recent years, it comes as no surprise that sellers are now attempting to trade this way, it’s a huge trend and currently holds a high value. That said, Auto Trader won’t be releasing a ‘search by Bitcoin’ function anytime soon. Our focus is very much on our ‘search by monthly payment’ product that launches next month for car buyers.”
Could this be the perfect car for the upcoming royal wedding? If so, Harry will need to make sure he has his Bitcoin account in order…
