A ratchet wrench is one of the more versatile, valuable, and multi-function tools that you could have lying around in the garage. Trying to find a good one, however, and particularly when you have to consider the cost and what you get in return, can be quite challenging. Yet, of all the tools that I’ve tried out thus far in Ryobi’s 4V Lithium range of tools, this ratchet wrench is probably one of my favourites.
Their new RR14W4-0 1/4″ ratchet wrench is perfect for smaller nuts and bolts, which is awesome to have with you when you’re working on those smaller fasteners on your car. As with the rest of their 4V Lithium line-up of tools from Ryobi, this tiny RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench is powered by a 4V 2Ah USB-rechargeable battery, which is also interchangeable with those other tools in the collection.
In the RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench, you just drop the battery into the base of the handle. It’s worth taking a moment to highlight how small and robust those 4V batteries are, so you can readily chuck a few of these into your pocket or toolbox. Another thing to bear in mind too, is that as standard, each of the tools from Ryobi’s 4V Lithium series comes with an included 2Ah battery.
However, if you need to work for longer and desire a larger battery capacity, you could opt to acquire the optional 3Ah battery. It’s fully plug-and-play and interchangeable! In addition, you could also use these 4V lithium batteries, either the 2Ah or optional 3Ah batteries, as an emergency, alternative battery bank for your phone or electronics.
8Nm Of Torque For All Those Nuts And Bolts
One more crucial point of consideration with the Ryobi RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench is the torque. With the 210RPM brushed motor, which is controlled by a variable speed trigger, and up to 8Nm of torque, it’s not super powerful. At least, when you compare it to bigger ratchet wrenches that you might have lying about elsewhere in your garage.
Now, the upside of that is that given how you’re not getting a lot of torque and rotation with it, that 2Ah battery should last you a decently good amount of time. On top of that, when you consider how tiny and pocketable the Ryobi RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench is – and you really can slide it into your pocket – handy to have around for lighter workloads.
For automotive work, some of the stuff that I’ve used this for included disassembling tiny fasteners, nuts, and bolts, bits of trim, and other small bits and pieces throughout your car. Granted, this is probably not going to be the only ratchet wrench in your drawer, especially if you’re regularly working on larger bolts and nuts. Or, if you need to leverage higher torque figures.
I reckon that the Ryobi RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench could very well be your most used ratchet wrench, given how reliable it works, how easily it’s able to loosen or tighten most tinier nuts or bolts, and given how compact it is, overall.
Small In Size, But It Packs A Really Good Punch
I’ve found that the Ryobi RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench is a massive lifesaver when it comes to fitting it into tighter working spaces, such as tiny gaps within the engine bay, which most ratchet wrenches could only dream of, thanks to its compact form factor. In day-to-day usability, the Ryobi RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench is pretty straightforward. There’s a switch that you can use to lock out the ratchet.
This is handy if you want to apply pressure on the nut or bolt that you’re working on, without needing to rely on the motor itself. It can be great to have that for instances like loosening certain bolts or cracking open stubborn nuts.
Aside from that, look at the tip of the Ryobi RR14W4-0 ratchet wrench, and you’ll find an LED light at the front, lighting up your working area and whatever you’re working on. Between all these features, like the diminutive size, easily interchangeable batteries, and respectable performance, £79.99 is, I think, a really good price for Ryobi’s tiny but brilliant ratchet wrench.
