McLaren 750S Supercar: The New Spectrum Theme Revolution

An Exclusive Palette for an Exquisite Supercar

In a groundbreaking move, McLaren Automotive has announced an all-new multi-tone paint finish exclusively for its lightest and most powerful series-production supercar, the McLaren 750S.

Called the Spectrum Theme, this vibrant, stunning finish is developed and applied by world-class paint technicians at McLaren Special Operations (MSO), McLaren’s bespoke personalisation service.

With a seven-shade finish, this eye-catching theme uses the most advanced techniques ever developed by MSO, producing a spectacular look that catches attention from nose to tail.

A New Dawn in Paint Technique

Perfecting the Spectrum Theme required the development of completely new techniques, introducing a new generation of McLaren paint specialism that offers customers something truly unique and groundbreaking.

The Spectrum Theme is more technical than anything MSO has ever developed before, pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship. Separate shades of colour create a tonal shift defined by precision craftsmanship.

To the naked eye, this closely arranged rainbow of colours produces an illusion of light to dark within each individual stripe, giving a sense of speed and acceleration, even when the 750S is stationary.

Tailored to Your Taste

The Spectrum is available in three variants: Spectrum Blue, Spectrum Grey and Spectrum Orange. But these three themes are just the beginning! The Spectrum can be specified in unique colourways, designed and delivered by MSO.

The shades in the colour spectrum require the formulation of new paints that blend just the right amount of light and dark tones to create a coherent shift in colour. There is no fixed formula, with every Spectrum Theme requiring bespoke mixes to achieve the desired outcome.

In addition, these colourways can be combined with further MSO bespoke personalisation. Options include vibrantly coloured leather trim, a bespoke dedication plaque, and extended visual carbon fibre door sills featuring hand-painted Spectrum graded effect MSO logos.

Overcoming Aesthetic Challenges

Applying the Spectrum lines presented a significant challenge, considering the shut lines and intricate aerodynamic sculpting of the dihedral doors. To address this, MSO technicians developed new techniques that allowed the lines to fully compliment the surface of the 750S’s incredible bodywork.

The result? An aesthetic that is fully sympathetic to the 750S’s wide-ranging technical advances.

The Final Flourish

At the rear of the car, the Spectrum Theme incorporates a nod to the popular Velocity Theme, also offered by MSO. The seventh paint shade isn’t a solid stripe, but a gentle Velocity fade that wraps around the back of the 750S, creating an aesthetic flourish that will undoubtedly turn heads. To finish off, the underside of the Active Rear Wing of the 750S can be finished in a contrasting colour.

In the words of Michael McDonagh, Director at McLaren Special Operations, “The Spectrum Theme takes what we can do at McLaren to the next level.”

Indeed, the Spectrum Theme is not just a paint finish, it’s a testament to McLaren’s constant push for innovation, personalisation, and above all, speed. It represents a truly unique addition to the McLaren 750S, bringing a new layer of personalisation to an already incredible supercar.
